Toyota, or Toyoda, started out with spinning, drawing and weaving cotton.
They had staff on-hand in the museum and I was given a demonstration of cotton weaving on a Japanese spinning wheel, which was quite impressive!
Toyota Commemorative Museum
They have much more modern-looking machines now, but the old ones are more impressive; the intricate mechanisms are more on-show!
Toyota Commemorative Museum
They got into cars just in time, as Ford and GM were looking at the Japanese market. They took apart a Chevrolet to study it before creating their own cars, initially just for Japan.

Toyota Commemorative Museum Shop
Hmmm, stroke of genius, or recipe for well-lubricated noodles? I'm not sure a spanner and a fork are the most natural combination of implements!
Unusually for me, I could happily have spent several more hours wandering around this museum, seeing more of the demos and running machinery, but we were 'played out' of the museum at 5pm to the tune of auld lang syne (I seem to remember some shops here doing a similar thing!).

Sky Promenade
On the 46th floor (45th as we count them 8n the UK) of the Midland Square building you can get a birds-eye view of the city. I probably should have aimed too get her before sunset to see both the day and the night views.
The lift was really fast, but I could only really feel the motion as it slowed down on approach to the 42nd floor (you go up to the 46th using escalators).
The night view with all its lights as far as the eye can see feels a little dystopian!
Sky Promenade
You pay 1000 yen to enter, but there's WiFi, sofas and you seem to be able to stay as long as you want!

Hongan-ji temple. The old bell tower looks a little tired, but the temple itself looks very modern!

Fuji Nagoya Science Museum
Typhoon demonstration and the planetarium.
I should have known I wouldn't do so well in the planetarium - the narration was all in gentle Japanese and it was dark - caught myself nodding off a few times...I hope I didn't snore much!
Apparently it's the biggest planetarium dome in the world, and it was pretty good.
Chubu Electric Power Mirai Tower
TV tower around which a Central Park has been created, which, because they could, has a big underground car park under it! The park runs in a straight line north towards the castle.
Central Park
Fuji Nagoya Science Museum
There was quite a lot of good, interactive stuff here, but although titles were in English as well as Japanese, instructions and explanations were not. Of course, having arrived later than I should have, I was again chased out of the museum at 5pm!
Oasis 21
Underground shopping centre with a park above, and a flashy glass roof with water on it.
They had trees with lively smelling rosemary around them in the park.
