Location Masking
Hide Sensitive Locations
Masking hides the part of a chapter nearest to a place you do not want to publish, such as your home, a friend's house or tonight's campsite.
How It Works
The first or last part of your route, within the distance you choose, is hidden from everyone else, so the route appears to begin or end some distance from where you actually were. The full track is kept in your account.
Set Up a Mask
- In the app: More Options when creating a chapter, or JOURNEY › Edit Chapter › Location Mask. Start and end can each be No mask, 500 m, 1 km or 3 km
- On the website: Journey Dashboard › chapter › Privacy Mask, which also offers 10 km and 20 km
- Masks can be changed at any time; the map updates within a few minutes
Masks and Live Tracking
An end mask is switched off while live tracking is on, because live tracking shows where you are right now.
Masking a Pebbl
When you create or edit a Pebbl, Location Masking moves the pin a random distance away from the real spot: Neighbourhood at least 500 m, Town at least 1 km, Region at least 3 km, Wide at least 10 km and Maximum at least 20 km (up to 50 km). The photo and note are still public; only the pin moves.
