Overnight Sailing Passage To Fakarava
We woke up this morning to sunshine which felt really good after what has been almost a week of non-stop wind and rain. We left Apataki early to sail overnight to Fakarava. Although distances between the atolls are not huge, due to having time to time the passes perfectly both when leaving and arriving it makes day sailing tricky, so we tend to end up favouring overnight passages to make sure our arrivals are timed for slack water.
The sea was a little lumpy to start (the left overs from the tropical cyclone which blew through) but throughout the day it calmed and although we have been beating tight on the wind, it’s generally been a comfortable passage.
I’ve just woken up from my 4 hours sleep for my watch. Liv made really good time on her watch and we’re just a few miles off Fakarava, so I will sail up and down for the next five hours until it’s slack tide and we can navigate the pass.
