Vine bridge camping

By David · Journey: Japan 2026 · 1 km

The weather forecast is for rain in the afternoon and gusty winds, then heavy rain overnight.
It was difficult to decide what to do. We found food at the cafe opposite and have an affordable campsite, so we've opted for another 2 nights here and hiking tomorrow if the weather permits...

Short walk upstream

Morning stroll before the rain got heavier.

Afterwards we collected some dry-ish wood to potentially have a fire in one of the kitchen cooking area grilles this evening...although neither of us had a lighter or matches, luckily some other campers arrived who do!

Nice meal at the cafe by the campsite!

· Japan

We don't have a way to buy groceries, but the cafe by the campsite does tasty food and although it costs a bit more than supermarket food, we also have a nice, warm place to shelter from the rain and charge gadgets for the afternoon!

Fire and rain!

· Japan

We needed a little help from a fellow cycle tourist with a gas stove to get tonight's fire going!

It's bucketing down with rain so we used a kitchen cooking area rather than the open campsite spot. Good job we scavenged some dry firewood from the woods earlier and stashed it in the shelter of the kitchen area roof!

It really is heavy rain and we both have some water in our tents! So far mine's seeping up through the floor a bit and coming through the tent inner where the rain is splashing up under the tent outer...and maybe the occasional drop from the roof. Sounds like Suchern's tent may be worse 🌊 🙁

21mm in an hour is a lot of water!

If we stay dry enough until midnight, it's supposed to slacken off a bit then 🤞
