Chicago To Yellowstone
LOVED CHICAGO! Now to a small town called Galena, Illinois, then on to Iowa for the night. Reaching the Badlands tomorrow, then on to Mount Rushmore and Yellowstone.
What A City
Chicago is a wonderful place. Went to the Art Institute (there was a Frida Kahlo exhibition on 😍), saw the Bean, got taken out for dinner by my old friend David, and tried deep dish pizza. A grand ol’ time.
Forgot To Put Tracking On
Driven 500km so far today through Illinois and Minnesota. 422km to go before we reach our farmstay next to Badlands National Park.
Badlands
Wowww! After 8 hours on the road we drove into this incredible landscape listening to Wild West music. Two nights here.
Mount Rushmore
A little bit… whelming?
Hard To Say Goodbye
Winnie, the lab at the ranch we stayed at in the Badlands, would not let us leave. Such a cool stay - proper cowboy land. James completed his own cowboy look with a hat.
Delta 09 Nuclear Missile Silo
The plains of South Dakota are full of underground nuclear missiles, with missileers stationed ready to turn the key at any moment if necessary. Terrifying. We looked down on this decommissioned one (that could easily have been fired at the SU during the Cold War) near the Badlands.
Devil’s Tower
First stop in Wyoming (through the tiny town of Sundance, of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid fame) was the Devil’s Tower, or, as I think it should be called, the Devil’s Toenail. Walked past a crazy climber who had just been to the top, covered in ropes and blood down his leg, looking very proud of himself.
Bear Having A Jacuzzi
Went to a drive-thru bear park. Highlight was this lad having a nice cool soak.
Incredible Cabin In Montana
Day Off
Had a day off relaxing in our cabin yesterday, catching up on sleep. Went for a nice dinner overlooking ‘Paradise Valley’. Now off to explore Yellowstone for the weekend, and the sun’s out!
Waking Up In Montana
And some of Yellowstone. Ft. some yellow-bellied marmots fighting, baby bison, a geyser and James preparing to use our bear spray.
