Phew!
That was a lot of ascent today, but I made it to the (free) campsite I was aiming for! Squat toilets, no power and no mobile phone signal, but I've somewhere to camp and hopefully it'll not rain for long enough for my tent to dry out a bit after the rain as I was packing it this morning!
The last shop before the campsite was a bit of a let down. They were very nice, and even gave me 3 of their own croissants when I asked for a loaf of bread and they didn't have one, but the tofu and wild veg was expensive and the bento boxes a bit small. Hopefully I've enough food for a couple of days though so I can hike tomorrow...if the weather isn't too bad to!
I had intended to try to hike Mount Ishizuchi, the highest peak on the island (1982m), but the roads getting in and out looked tough and the trail at the top is marked as black on my map (very difficult, and I've not made it up some of those before!), so I'll be trying, the slightly smaller, Mount Tsutsujo (1860m). It's trails are even marked on Google Maps, so they hopefully won't be disappearing ones!
