Walking up ski resort pistes is hard work - really steep! Glad I remembered to put my hiking boots on rather than my walking shoes (at the last minute!).
Looks like I'm the only one walking up when there's a perfectly good, and affordable, gondola which takes the same route. I'm wondering whether someone will start shouting at me and telling me I'm not allowed to do it on foot...
They've mountain bike trails going through the woods, but I'd best not try and walk along those as there are people on bikes zipping around!

Woodland trails and a marsh boardwalk. Its popular here!
t first it seemed like it was mainly retirees, but then a 100-strong primary school group arrived while I was paused, eating an apple. It's super-busy up here - more than the Nakasendo trail by Magome!

From the summit
Busiest summit I've been on for ages!
Another marsh boardwalk
Far fewer people made it this far...mind you, it doesn't have the views the summit does!

Big sliding-door gates around the marsh boardwalk.
An offline translation of the sign suggested the fencing and gates are to keep snakes out. I'd be petrified if I met a snake that couldn't get through that gate! I think perhaps it's more to keep deer out.

It's so noisy with life in these woods! The birds and the crickets are all you can hear!
