Cycling Day 36: Towards Tanabe

Feeling very frazzled after our early awakening, I made a decision I both regret, and, at least so far, feel some relief over. I felt like I needed some time on my own again. Maybe not long...I don't know, but Suchern and I are exploring Japan solo again for a little while.

I'm feeling guilty, and disappointed in myself, as I know Suchern would prefer we were traveling together and has done a lot to maintain that.

Susa Shrine

Shrine with a 1300 year history, lots of steps and some nice animal statues. To my eyes sometimes they do feel a bit out of place, compared to the old, classical Japanese structures, but I think I do like them, and they're clearly important to the congregation.

I'm dipping in and out of the Pacific Cycling Route at the moment (taking short cuts on the main road). Some lovely coastal views!

The beach by Mihama. There's a campsite here, but maybe it's a little early to stop (plus it was advertised as free on OpenStreetMap... Probably is if you camp on the beach - you'd just be paying for grass I think?

There are bed options in the towns a little further down the coast which don't cost much more than the campsite if this is high season (not many people here, but I saw something saying process change 1st April). Plus reception closed at 4pm!
