Hiroshima: Peace Museum & Around
Museum
I didn't take many photos, but the museum was a moving experience telling of when the bomb was dropped, with information on before, immediately after, and the long-lasting after-effects on those caught up and who came into what was left of the city to help afterwards.
It covered some of the politics before, and much on nuclear disarmament efforts afterwards. Nothing on Japan's changing politics towards defence now as yet.
North of the Peace Memorial Museum
Walking north through the parks feeling a bit drained after the Peace Memorial Museum and nearby exhibits in the peace park.
Reconstructed Hiroshima Castle
Originally from 1591, the atomic bomb destroyed it. The dijon entrance was rebuilt in 1958 and one of the castle towers was rebuilt too. The rest remains as walls and gardens, plus the Gokoku Temple.

The pigeons get a bad rap here, but at least they get to skateboard!
Shukkeien Garden
The name means shrunken scenery garden and it was originally designed for a feudal lord to enjoy back in the 1600s

Gig!
I found myself a multi-band Sunday afternoon gig to go to! An underground indie-rock venue called Hiroshima 4.14.
It actually took about 20 minutes of wandering back and forth to find the way in!
English translation of the band names:
The C-G/Orekaba/AXE/Ohirudake/MARUX/In a short while.
I may well be the oldest person here apart from the stage director (?) and the sound man, so nothing unusual there!

Vegetarian Okonomiyaki
Very tasty! It's fried cabbage, bean sprouts and noodles sandwiched between a pancake and a fried egg, smothered with teriyaki sauce. Usually it would have pork, but mine has sliced garlic instead.
I went to Roku as recommended on the Happy Cow website (for vegan and veggie restaurants) - hidden away on the 3rd (4th in US/Japan) floor of a block, along with many similar little eateries.
They prepared it on a hot plate in front of me, and you take a slice at a time off the hot plate as you eat, so it stays warm...and somehow didn't burn!
