We are so back
Left Sæunn in Oban while we were off visiting family for a month. Now back to it!
Jura - top spot!!
Intriguing beaches and caves, both at sea level and above (a glacial phenomenon). Plenty of deer, nary another human.
Ding-stilleries
Able to anchor offshore and dinghy in to 3 different distilleries on Islay: Bunnahabhain, Lagavulin, and Ardbeg. Lots of blackberries by the roadsides and even sunshine. First mackerel found on the west coast kept us fed a few days.
Passage to N. Ireland
Heavy passage from Islay. Early rise to catch the flood tide and set a new (likely lifetime) speed record for Sæunn at 9.6 kts over ground. It was hard to imagine we would find calm harbor with the sea state as it was, but Glenarm was perfectly still.
A moving day in Belfast
Very visible scars of tension and conflict in Belfast. But with plenty of color and signs of healing as well.
A red sun rises... towards Isle of Man
Arrived in drizzle to Port Erin. Dramatic cliffs welcomed us to the harbor but conditions were a bit too rough to visit with the dinghy.
Arrival to England
Finally visiting our friends in Cumbria
Thanks Eugenio and Megan for being amzing hosts and showing us around the Lakes District. Happy to visit and look forward to seeing you again!
Challenging passage to Wales
We planned 14 hours but ended up sailing 28. Diverted for military practice and several other vessels while getting pushed and pulled by the tide in heavy seas and winds.
Climbing in North Wales
Thanks Maria and Matt for taking us around to touch a lot of rocks. Beautiful weather has found us again.
Happy birthday to me
Brutal to escape the waves and swell around Holyhead, at any tide. But we made it after one aborted attempt, and motored south to stopover at the Lleyn peninsula for a night.
Arrival to Pembrokeshire
Some good weather, some bad weather... but across Cardigan Bay to South Wales and Dale in Pembrokeshire. Two days here.
A long journey to Isles of Scilly
Another brutal passage. We were diverted by a British warship conducting "exercises" and it just got worse from there... Arriving to Scilly and St. Mary's was true redemption! Sunshine, turquoise waters, white sand. It felt actually almost Caribbean. Immaculate island vibes.
Tresco and St. Agnes
The plant life here is incredibly exotic. Lots of Mediterranean and southern hemisphere imports that have made these islands home. A special place to rest for a few days while we wait for a weather window to cross the English Channel.
Happy birthday Solrun!
Crossed the English Channel just in time to celebrate Sólrún's birthday with a little bit of everything to eat and drink in Brest.
Smooth sailing along the Bretagne coast
Brest to Concarneau, where we picked up Mathilda!
To the beach! Îles des Glènan
Tricky navigation with shallow sandbars and spring tides, but this archipelago outside Concarneau is a real highlight!
Slow days in Port-Louis
After dropping off Mathilda in Lorient, we have sat in Port-Louis awaiting a weather window for our next passage. In the meantime, we have settled into routines, a mix of visiting the local shops, swimming in the sea, and boat work.
