Day 23: Himara - Sagiada
Today we’re kicking into Greece! Another tough ride (96km and 1,530m of elevation). But the elevation gain is more spread out. The mercury rises to just 30°C (nothing compared to Belgium).
Departure from lovely Himarë
Himarë was a delightful place to rest. Perhaps not by coincidence, as this spa town has been inhabited by Greeks for over 4,000 years. The first souvlakis and saganakis on the menu!
Sagiada Greece!
After lunch in Sarandä, yet another bustling seaside town in Albania, a pleasant drive followed through beautiful landscapes in what was once a very remote corner of Albania. Then suddenly the Albanian border post, followed by the Greek one – the most ‘welcoming’, of course!
From the border, we were quickly in the small harbor of Sagiada, where we immediately did justice to a taverna with its vista. A warm homecoming for me; for Rik, a first but very successful introduction!
